Medication for Pain (Conventional)

The types of medication to treat pain largely depend on the area, intensity, what aggravates it and the type of pain experienced.

For example in the case of cancer patients, because of the intensity of the pain, cancer patients do not find relief from regular painkillers even if given in higher doses and they are recommended to use Opioids to manage pain. In the advanced stages, Doctors may prescribe additional drugs that can be taken for the pain that occurs between the regular scheduled drugs.

The conventional medications to treat pain are:

  • Painkillers
  • Opioid drugs, such as Codeine and Morphine
  • Local anesthetics
  • Non steroids
  • Antidepressants
